The Grim Reaper Drinks That Brown Liquor

Back in September, I had recently wrapped production on The 21st Century Epicurean and was ready for my next project. After submitting a few auditions for various titles both in fiction and non-fiction categories, I came across another audition script that had an interesting note at the top of the description: “Mort is the personification of Death with Louisiana Southern Gothic charm.”

That first line alone had me intrigued. By the end of that day, I had worked up a gravelly southern drawl delivery and submitted my audition take. You could imagine my excitement when RT Dixon’s team responded to my audition, asking if I could commit to a multi-book project as the audiobook narrator for Mort: Tales by Mortimer (aka “Death”).

The experience was amazing as I developed voices for so many different and dynamic characters, including lots of creepy, evil characters and a couple a legit demons in the mix. It was a thrill to share these three spooky tales. Meanwhile, channelling the persona of The Grim Reaper as a smooth talkin’, bourbon-sippin’ ghost host has made him an instant favorite. I wanted to get back into voice work to create fun characters like Mort, and I’m stoked to come across this guy right out of the gate.

Six weeks later, I’m proud to announce the release of the first installment in the Mort series. It’s also a point of pride for me to say that I completed my first major audiobook production. Huge thanks to RT and Christopher from Trentham Hicks Publishing for giving me my first shot at a major fiction project.

Even better, the plans for a future book in the series calls for me to voice the audiobook completely in the character of Mort.

I invite you to have a listen! I think you’ll have a lot of scary fun with this book. Check out this link to access Mort, Book 1: Tales by Mortimer (aka “Death”), and stay tuned for more, darlin’.
